Construction started April 2009 and is slated for completion in 2015. This structure can be seen from many locations throughout the downtown and from the east towards Saint Boniface. I have spent a lot of time photographing the museum from all angles and I think this view captures a sense of the dominant nature of the structure. The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is a national museum under construction in Winnipeg, Manitoba. It is located at The Forks where the Assiniboine and Red River meet. The purpose of the museum is to increase understanding and awareness of human rights, promote respect for others, and encourage reflection, dialogue, and action. The building is currently being constructed. Throughout the foundation work of the CMHR, medicine bags created by elders at Thunderbird House, in Winnipeg, were inserted into the holes made for piles and caissons to show respect for Mother Earth. On 3 July 2010, Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, unveiled the building's cornerstone. The stone bears the Queen's royal cypher and has embedded in it a piece of stone from the ruins of St. Mary's Priory at Runnymede, England, where it is believed the Magna Carta was approved in 1215 by King John. http://www.humanrightsmuseum.ca/ CS5 shadow/highlight unsharp mask f11 1/125 55mm Taken May 2, 2013.

3 comments janper44 Mon, 13 May 2013 19:21:47 -0600 .... He was also an outfielder and manager. This home is located in the Italian neighborhood affectionately referred to as "The Hill" in St. Louis, MO. I thought that the little concrete statue of a baseball catcher in front of the porch was a very subtle tribute to Yogi. Interesting tidbit for this house is that directly across the street is the boyhood home of Joe Garagiola, Yogi's pal who played sand lot baseball with Yogi growing up. Joe was a catcher for the St. Louis Cardinals. NOTE: There is a marble plaque on the apron of the sidewalk in front of this house commemorating this famous catcher.

8 comments Diane Mon, 13 May 2013 06:50:15 -0600 Tavares Fly-in http://www.perfectlycaptured.com/showphoto.php?photo=17550

by: EzHighway

Description: Seaplane Fly-in at the Tavares Lake Dora Airport.

2 comments EzHighway Mon, 13 May 2013 04:32:42 -0600 Nikon Girl http://www.perfectlycaptured.com/showphoto.php?photo=17549

by: EzHighway

Description: She was working the Seaplane Fly-in on Lake Dora Tavares, Florida for the Daily Commercial News Paper.

4 comments EzHighway Mon, 13 May 2013 04:23:48 -0600 Meat and Veg http://www.perfectlycaptured.com/showphoto.php?photo=17548

by: Shimshams

Description: Back garden, close up shot of some veg the better half was growing......the meat is an extra.

2 comments Shimshams Sun, 12 May 2013 11:58:22 -0600 Vermont Farm http://www.perfectlycaptured.com/showphoto.php?photo=17547

by: Ellen

3 comments Ellen Sun, 12 May 2013 10:42:37 -0600 Mother's Comforting Arms http://www.perfectlycaptured.com/showphoto.php?photo=17546

by: janper44

Description: Not the best image in the world and the bordering doesn't help I know but I like this picture when I think of Mother's Day. It was taken in 1947 at the home of my father's father in the Province of Skane in southern Sweden. It was the first time home for my mother and father after the Second World War. I remember that at the beginning child and mother spoke together in Swedish and her words comforted the little boy. One big regret in my life is that my first language (Swedish) is now completely forgotten. I took a picture of a picture in the family album (now moved on to my brother as he is working on creating a family history which so far as carried him far afield and back to the 1600s in the Old Country) No idea of who took the picture or what camera they might have used. The bordering is from my torn from the pages of history phase I was going through at the time. Happy Mother's Day .... Anna Jarvis, who had no children of her own, conceived of Mother’s Day as an occasion for honoring the sacrifices individual mothers made for their children. In May 1908, she organized the first official Mother’s Day events at a church in her hometown of Grafton, West Virginia, as well as at a Wanamaker’s department store in Philadelphia, where she lived at the time. Jarvis then began writing letters to newspapers and politicians pushing for the adoption of Mother’s Day as an official holiday. By 1912, many other churches, towns and states were holding Mother’s Day celebrations, and Jarvis had established the Mother’s Day International Association. Her hard-fought campaign paid off in 1914, when President Woodrow Wilson signed a bill officially establishing the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day. **** Thanks, so much, to everyone for looking in to my gallery and special thanks to all who leave thoughts, ideas and comments. I was in next doors garden helping out with something when I could hear the alarm call of a Blackbird in the garden the other side of our house, I thought there was a cat about after one of its 2 young fledglings. I dashed back to our house looked over the fence and found the male Blackbird dive bombing a Sparrow Hawk that had caught one of its young. Unable to stop the proceedings I ran in doors, grabbed the camera, fixed the telephoto lens on and ran out side. Lined up a shot...the camera refused to work...durrrr..I had taken the battery out to charge and had not bothered to replace it..back in doors...battery snatched off charge and in place,I dashed back out side and managed to take a few quick shots before the Hawk decided it had had enough of the Blackbird and me and flew off with its prey. The Black bird followed still trying to rescue its young. This all happened so quick that it was over in a couple of minutes and I had no time to dither over what will probably be a once in a lifetime event for me as we don't usually get Hawks in the garden at all. I could have just as easily dismissed the whole event as an over protective parent bird and issed it. Moral...always have your camera handy...always have a battery in...and ignore nothing. Not quite as sharp as I would have liked but....distance was about 15 meters lighting overcast / bright.

4 comments Shimshams Sat, 11 May 2013 06:56:32 -0600
