A 45 minute hike up some slick sandstone takes you to the famous arch, no not McDonalds! Sandstone is made up mostly of quartz and feldspar and can be tan, brown, yellow, red, gray, pink, or white. The sandstone in southern Utah is brownish/red, but turns a brillant red when a low level sun angle hits the sides. You have to hike early to get a spot as the shooting angle gets full of photogs near sunset. If you noticed in this shot I purposely kept the sitting person to the left of the arch for a size comparison. This NP is a must visit if you can arrange it.

Beautiful color and sky plus composition make an awesome photo. I'm glad the person was included I couldn't have imagined the massive size of the arch.

I also am glad that you included the seated individual... I've never visited this location but I've seen many pictures and I always had the sense that this natural structure was much smaller in size but now I can see that it quite physically overwhelming. The reddish of the rock formation is incredible (so saturated in feel) with the contrast between the red of the rock and the blue of the sky being quite startling.

Splendid saturation - exactly as I remember it when I visited Arches NP. I didn't make it to the top - just got totally exhausted from trying to climb that slick rock trail and was worried about the return trip that would be in the dark after the sunset. An absolutely perfect composition expecially with those classic white clouds and birds egg blue sky. To include the individual sitting and the peek under the arch at the distant mountains (looks like the LaSals) along with the perfect DOF. with all supporting attributes in perfect harmony.

OK I will admit it im sulking here.. I dont think we have anything quite as colourful or naturally beautiful here in the uk... so my wish list of places to visit just got even longer Smile

Amazing colour here and a nice angle for the shot.. great idea to keep the guy sitting there for perspective that really does make a huge difference for those of us who have never been (but want to go lol)

Thank you for posting
Kind regards Helen
