The protest rallies across the nation today was to show their disagreement with Gov. Walker of Wisconsin and his goal of balancing their state budget. In order to do that cuts have to be made and the Unions are none too happy. PLEASE UNDERSTAND I AM NOT STATING MY POLITICAL VIEWS WITH THESE IMAGES. MY INTENTION WAS JUST TO GET IN SOME STREET JOURNALISTIC IMAGES. SO PLEASE DON'T MAKE YOUR COMMENTS POLITICAL. THANKS.

Both my brother and father were union men. I could see the importance of the union in the early days of the struggle for better pay and better benefits (I still remember my father telling me of working during the Depression for a $1 a day to support a wife and two kids). My brother was also a union man (now long retired) but says the unions have gone far beyond their early role.

I simply worked without a union and never suffered for living my life outside the union.

Right now the largest union of the City of Winnipeg has given approval to their leadership that they can call a strike... this will be the first civic strike in Winnipeg since the infamous strike of 1919.

I attended a counter-rally in my own state to show support of Gov. Walker. Our country is broke, our states our broke, and while there was certainly a time in our history when unions were necessary, times have changed and we need to get out from under our debt. I don't believe anyone in America should have to pay a union to keep a job.

Spook, I purposely am keeping my political views off this site, so maybe I should remove the pics. This was just a chance for me to do some street photography. ~~gary

This picture is worth a thousand words..
Especially one with such a controversial theme.
A question one can ask is why do Federal workers NOT have collective bargaining?
I think the Fed & Mr. Obama, should stay the heck out of state business.
And start with solving the federal deficit..Ya think!!
Well done!

If this shot raises some blood pressure I think that's a good thing Wink May it's because I'm the daughter of an immigrant mother who lived under government tyranny and facism and I had a father who fought against those things so I could enjoy the life I enjoy that I feel as I do, or maybe it's just because I've always love my country and my freedom and I've watched it slipping away under my nose. As Americans we should never have to be afraid to voice our opinions.
