This was me on the mound in June 1965 at age 12 pitching for the Kiwanis Little League team. I stumbled onto the original 8x10 that was initially used for a sports section photo in my local paper. It has since bleached out and the color all but gone. So, I took another photo of it to preserve it for my 2 kids and grandson. My record that year was 12-0 using a fast ball, fast curve, and a slider, as my 3 main pitches throwing 1 no hitter.
The uniform of that era was wool with wool socks. My parents who have since passed held onto that photo before giving it to me before they died. It is very sentimental to me for my dad was the coach of my team as well as my pitching coach at home. He worked hard in a factory all day, but always found time to catch a few hundred pitches in the backyard.
I used Photoshop, Nik Viveza 2 for selective editing, and Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 to convert it to a coffee colored tone and selected Ilford 400 film for the grain effect.

Looks like you may have missed your calling. Before this year is our, Rangers will need some extra pitching. I remember winning the Texas A&M intramural softball championship in 1967. Being Frshman and hazed just terribly, no wait, we called it good bull, we played the game at 12:00 midnight.

I knew this was you! You have the same marvelous face! The grain really gives your image punch Gary! I had just graduated from high school in 67'! Were we ever this young? :-)

Love your story, Gary. These old images mean more as the years pass. Your son and grandson will treasure this. A few years ago I took a picture of my grandson skateboarding and remembered that I had a similar one of his Dad about the same age. For my son's birthday I put the two together in one frame for him and he loves it. You did a great job of restoring it also.

You couldn't have posted a more appropriate pic for today as it is OPENING DAY AT BUSH STADIUM today. This is such a big time baseball town and I love your capture with all the elements of the spirit of the game prominently displayed. Any chance you might want to sign up with the cards? Our starter, Wainright, is out with tommy John this year and there's a spot in the rotation for you!!!
