At Richmond, where I do most of my deer photography, there are lots of small ponds where the Fallow deer come to drink and where I attempt to capture both deer and their reflection in the ponds. This one has many very large English oaks which can be lined up so as to provide cover for a close approach. This shot was taken across the pond.
These youngsters may be fighting for real in a year or two but fallow deer tend to posture rather more than they fight.

The lightness of the grasses serves as a strong backdrop for the two dueling youngsters as well as their antlers. I particularly like the light coloring and patterning on the deer on the right (difference in age?). And even at this distance one can pick up the catchlight in the eye of the deer on the left.

We drove through this park once and I didn't appreciate what was on offer. Nicely posed.
