In the years I've been shooting, this is my first Summer Tanager..It was early morning (8:00) with heavy overcast conditions @ F/5.6, 1/60th, and ISO 640.
It's a first spring male with variable amount of red and yellow feathers; may have only a few red feathers on head, or may be entirely red except for the wing feathers.

The predominantly reddish plumage set against the near gray of the wooden fencing allows the Tanager to stand out strongly in the image while the texturing from the fencing and that luminous eye adds to the visual impact of the image.

Your timing for this pose was brilliant and the details are endless. But his gorgeous colors are perfect - such an attention getter!!! Well done!

I've never heard of these - what brilliant colours! A large beak too.
I love the quizzical expression and pose.
An excellent capture - great colours and perfect exposure.

Like Vic I have never heard of these Howard. The pose is well captured as are the bright colours and the contrast against the wood,

I have six locks on my door, all in a row. When I go out, I lock every other one. I figure no matter how long somebody stands there picking the locks, they are always locking three of them.
