This is a male Painted Bunting. I had seen these years ago at our beach house. At that time I was not into photography or birding but did look up the Bunting and was certainly impressed by its beauty. Recently, I found out that they frequent a certain place at Huntington State Park. I went there today and with a little patience I got a few decent shots. I also plan to go back early and late in the day to shoot more of this beauty.

Striking capture of the male Painted Bunting... the color, the catchlight in the eye and the quality of the lighting. It is unfortunate about the shadowy little branch which blocks out a portion of the bird but enough of the bunting shows through in the image that the shadowy branch becomes more incidental than distractive for me.

Stunning little bird. We don't have these in New England, but we do have the indigo bunting. [ link ]

Photographic artistry at it's finest form. The colors are brilliant and the details are so unique. You and a camera are pure magic.
