While having a sandwhich for dinner at Cape May Point State Park I looked up and saw a pair of goldfinch fly in and start enjoying their meal of thistle seeds. Was not able to get close, but used the zoom lens at 300mm.

A pleasing summery feel to your composition of the finch perched on the thistle stalk. One wishes that the finch had been a little further forward on the stalk but nevertheless the contrast between that of the finch and the thistle talk and the diffused nature of the background helps to make these two elements stand out strongly in the image.

A difficult shot to take at this distance, but the shallow dof is good, making the plant and the little bird stand out well in the picture. A shame you couldn't get a little closer, but I am sure he would have been off - he has his eye on you.

Yes you needed to get nearer for sure. I feel the Thistle Seed is prominent and the finch a little lost and soft it must be said. Ok you were full wack at 300mm but it`s not quite there for me......Charlie.

Great close up, nicely composed.

Good colors and DOF. I would have cropped the image so that our friend filled the frame. That said, he is partly hidden behind the diagonal stalk. As so often happens, the black obscures the eyes completely. A sharp image, though.

Nice color and sharpness, but I would have waited for a full body view of the goldfinch.
