The «Colosseum of Rome» is the greatest amphitheatre of the antiquity - capable of seating around 80,000 spectators - was built about 1920 years ago.

It is considered an architectural and engineering wonder, and remains as a standing proof of both the grandeur and the cruelty of the Roman world - It has been estimated that about 500,000 people and over a million wild animals died in the «Colosseum Games».

After the splendour of imperial times, the «Colosseum» was abandoned, and in turn it became a fortress for the medieval clans of the city, a source of building materials, a picturesque scenery for painters, a place of Christian worship.

Today it is a challenge for the archaeologists and a scenario for events and shows (*)…

... and a great place to visit.

What an interesting light you have captured here for this wonderful historical building. Creates a lovely mood to the whole image. Lovely details and the sky is very impressive. Well done

I think this is better for having been taking in the half light and allowing plenty of sky detail to show. Good work Jose.

Beautiful shot! I love the soft light which gives this a 'moody' look and reminds me a paintings from the masters.

Great interest & history here, informative notes.
The late/early? light works well, along with the coliseum lights themselves.
Well done Smile
