This is really quite a striking image... a strong painterly feel to the composition. I like how you captured the majority of the Willetts standing on one leg... I see birds like this and I think that they are injured but it probably has more to do with reducing heat lose or with bigger birds creating their own shadow to fool fish into swimming into the shade and the grasp of the bird.

I like what you have done to this to make it unique. I would like to know what techniques or filters you used.

Anne; I first used a Dry Brush filter from CS5 on the entire image. Next, I used Topaz ReMask3 to extract the birds from their watery background. After that, I spent a good deal of time cleaning up the edges. Then I placed it on a white BG and used a bit of Levels and Unsharp Mask. That's it.

Very nice PP work Lee and very effective too, It has a book cover type feel to the image.

Love your dry brush post processing - unique and perfect for the subject. Can see this one hanginging in a lounge area of a resort along the coast of New England. It's so professionaly done!
