There is a beautiful softness to this that I find really appealing. The play of light and shadow is very effective. Great use of DOF. Well done

Hi Meg, I love the composition. Ranunculus are stunning subjects and the colours you've captured against a black background are wonderful. The image is beautifully sharp and you've managed to retain some nice detal in the shadow areas.
However, my only suggestion for improvement would be to obtain a more 'even' and slightly 'softer' light and avoid the fall-off towards the left side. Obviously, if the flower is in the soil, what I'm about to suggest might be impossible. However, if the plant is in a tub, moving it to a lightly shaded area (or placing a muslin cloth between the sun and the plant to act as a diffuser) would allow you a much more even light.
Overall, though, this is a fine image. Paul.

Hello Meg
I agree with Paul these flowers are absoltuely deligthful and the colours on this one are superb. I also agree with Pauls suggestion regarding lighting.. however I actually really like the lighting on this shot and I think the contrast between the sunny and shaded area gives an added dimension here that I like.
Thank you for posting
kind regards Helen
