Taken in the tropical/butterfly pavilion at Devonian Botanical Garden. The sun just happened to break through an 'spotlight' the flower as I was hunting for butterflies in the foliage. Not many butterflies due to an unfortunate boiler breakdown that necessitated removal of the enclosure glass, resulting in a mass escape, but this shot was a nice consolation prize.

The sense, for me, as with the orchid of the bird of paradise flower as an exotic living creature rather than simply a beautiful flower. The light highlighting the bird of paradise flower is more apparent when one enlarges the image.

Lovely photo of the Strelitzia flower Peter. It is amazing the number of plants which originate in South Africa,
