We got our first serious snowfall on Friday night through Saturday morning and now everything in view is white. This morning when I went for a walk the temperature was -27C with a windchill of -36C... real parka and long john weather.

And so I thought a little color.

Before the ground thaws out in Spring and before the first flowers appear in the gardens around the city there are the flowers to be found in Assiniboine Park Conservatory and on this visit I managed to capture the soft curves of this pink blossom with the yellow pollen spilling out across the pink petals.

Looks like it might be a peony. Gorgeous color and you captured that vibrant color magically. And the little peek at the center stamens poking out through the petals - excellent work.

Yep, the flower shape and leaves says it's a Peony. It must be a real tonic to be able to see these when you live in the climate you do.

A few years back I spent a year or so in a small country town in Western Australia. Our yard was stony clay and yet in one garden bed which didn't get much water a procession of flowers would come up including peonies. Nicely captured Jan,
