Oliver Cromwell built in May 1951 and was the last locomotive to pull a passenger train before the abolition of steam traction in the UK. It now runs on the Heritage Line close to where I live and this shot shows her running at about 60mph the fastest speed allowed on this line. The wreath on the front is in memory to a man who worked on the original steam trains and although in his late 70s taught the younger men how to handle and drive steam trains.

I assume this picture is from this weekend's gala. You had perfect weather for it - clear and sunny but icy cold to enhance the steam. Another advantage which works better for the photographer over diesel or electric is the trail of steam which enhances the sense of speed.
I see you're getting to grips with your new Mac and with Lightroom too - looks like a winning combination to me.
Lovely work mate.

I thought for sure that I had posted a comment on this image but obviously I forgot to hit the submit button.

I really like the classical feel of your image. The clarity of detailing, the space to the left working to lead the Oliver Cromwell through the image, the complementary feel created between the smoke from the train and the overhead clouds and the quality of the light. You really have a winner to my eye with this photograph.

A blast from the past - a true classic. Love your notes, really gives a full appreciation of this old iron horse.
