It was such a beautiful day on Sunday that I couldn't resist taking this shot over the ice at the Forks with the CN train passing by. I had been out photographing along the Mutual Ice Trail (skater, warming huts and anything else of interest that I could focus on).

The ice trail goes west from here for about a mile and then a mile south behind me.

The large structure on the right is the apartment complex I live in (in the building directly under the revolving green restaurant) and on the immediate is the Fort Garry Hotel.

Last weekend and for much of this weekend the ice trail was closed because of warm weather but with colder temperatures it was open once again.

You mention 'The Forks' quite often Jan, and now you have given me an idea of just what the area is all about. Your description is good and I think I can quite imagine the sound of the CN train crossing the bridge. Would that be a fine shot to picture and hear a Steam Engine crossing that bridge!!

A remarkably colourful image for a winter scene. It's interesting how the authorities provide or allow these facilities for locals to practice their winter sports.
