There are quite a few local pubs or bars in my area of town but I've not been in a pub or a bar since 1970 and so I was thrown for a loop with this week's theme but then I realized that down at the Forks that with the renovation having taken place and also taking place currently there is a pub of sorts in the central food court.

Perhaps not the cozy confines of your neighbourhood bar especially on Canada Day.

I took this picture on Canada Day on July 1, 2016 and we one really squints down at the far end one can spot the newly opened (at the time) Commons craft beer and wine kiosk.

The Common craft beer and wine kiosk is located in the newly renovated Food Hall of The Forks Market. They serve 20 craft beer and 20 wines available by the glass or by the bottle that change seasonally.

When I first came to Winnipeg in 1971 and one would have stood at the spot where I took this picture they would have been standing in one of the warehouses of the Canadian National Railroad... empty, deserted with an unknown future. In the 45 years since the Forks has become the heart of Winnipeg for both residents and tourists.

Oh yes, a drinking lounge establishment for sure. You captured the very essence of this food hall with lots of people partaking in the wine, beer and food available. Love all the details - especially of the hanging lights and infinite lines of the bricks on the wall. Love how it still reflects the look and feel of the mighty Canadian trains that traveled through the area.

Looks like a well used spot. Great that the area has been renovated, and is enjoying such popularity.

In the UK the ban on smoking in public places has meant that many pubs have closed. There are the statistics:
UK pubs closing at a rate of 27 a week. The number of pubs fell by 1,444 in the UK in 2015 despite an overall decline in pub closures, according to the Campaign for Real Ale. There were 52,750 pubs at the end of last year,

You have captured a busy place for eating and drinking in your picture Jan.

Bright and colourful Jan, not like many pubs unless they have a garden bar.
