I was on my way to photograph the polar bears when I came across a number of free range peacocks wandering around the zoo. There is a number of both peacocks and turkeys (along with of course ducks and geese) that spend a lot of time outside of enclosures and while the ducks and geese migrate south the peacocks and turkeys stay at the zoo.

I was caught by the contrast between the delicate (and colorful nature of the head and plumage) and those large claws. One would think there were two birds here rather than one.

The peacocks in one of our parks have bene active of late and showing off their feathers, many photos in the local paper. Great shot Jan, nice detail,
