In the winter many Bald Eagles winter with us and use the water ways and river nearby to feed each day. The story below is of ...."America".... and how his picture came about.

The Story:

On January 4th of 2008 I was driving my normal observation area, watching out about 75 to 125 yards as usual. I suddenly saw a bird directly ahead of me. As I slowly got closer this magnificent creature was posing about 30 yards to my direct left. I put the camera out the window, he was so close I had to pull the camera back to get him in the frame. I took 3 frames and slowly drove about a 1/4 of a mile and turned around to watch. Several cars, pickups and even a school bus went by at 40-50-60 miles a hour and never saw the bird. When it was quite I slowly returned, rolled down the passenger side window, the Eagle and I looked a each other for 30-45 seconds. When I finally started to roll away he flew away as if to say,"I am glad you saw me".
Thanks, so much, to everyone for looking in to my gallery and special thanks to all who leave thoughts, ideas and comments. -Larry

Yet another shot which makes me jealous of the birds on your doorstep! Nice details in the plumage and excellent contact with the eye - whites possibly just a little harsh, but thats being really picky. You've done the bird proud.

Great natural shot Larry, as they should be in the wild, the head and eyes are nice and sharp.

Hiya Larry

I would say that this is a very proud looking bird and you have captured his character perfectly, a nice sharp image but maybe a little could be cropped from the right to leave it less central?
Thank you for posting
kind regards Helen
