The poppy wreaths have lain there since last November and will remain until this year's Remembrance day service. The blossom trees and wild flowers which surround this war memorial are more transient but just as regular in their appearance. The memorial lies close to Spike Milligan's grave in St Thomas' Churchyard, Winchelsea, Sussex. A very beautiful and quiet place on one of the very few hills in these parts which looks out over Kent, Sussex and the English channel. Could there be a better place to spend eternity?

Hi Vic,

Today we have remembrance day - and indeed nature is at it's most beautiful.
What a great spring it must have been when Holland was free after 5 years of war that spring of 1945.
There are flowers here as well, but not any particular one, "just" flowers.
This evening at 8 the whole of the country will have 2 silent minutes.
Thanks for this picture on this special day,

Hello Vic

A nicely composed, well balanced and very peaceful looking image, I like the colour contrasts here with the blue and red, well seen and captured and indeed a pleasant way to remember.

Thank you for posting
kind regards Helen

There is nothing quite like the English churchyard, they have a peace and a beauty all of their own.
A nicely composed shot Vic,the blue flowers adding perfect balance to the image.

I wish you could see the hillsides here at the moment, full of wildflowers and great swathes of lovely red poppies! Smile
