I would like to personally thank Helen for her help with me. I was having some issues uploading pics to PC (this one especially) and she walked me through some troubleshooting. So, here's to you, Helen. Thanks again!

A nice pose by the little bird that is also sharp, the overall image is overexposed IMOP and a smaller f - stop would have brought the girl into focus yet still left the BG blurred .. just my thoughts

It's a nice enough shot but there are a few issues that you might have been able to address if you had an SLR / DSLR:

1) The background is too blurred for me. A greater depth of field would have helped get the girl in focus. Her expression really needs to be captured in sharp focus, IMO.
2) Because she's reaching out, and you're using a wide angle setting, her hands look 'huge' compared to the rest of her. A standard lens (40-60mm) would avoid much of this distortion effect.
3) The overall brightness needs toning down. It is slightly over-exposed (probably about 1 to 1.5 stops). This could be corrected either 'in-camera' (always the best solution) or by tweaking in your post-processing suite.

There's some really good aspects to this shot - great subject, humour and composition - but if you're going to give yourself the best chance of developing your ambitions, you will need to get hold of a DSLR (a second-hand Nikon D70 with the 18-70 lens, or something similar would be ideal) and a couple of good books on the technical and aesthetic aspects of photography.

All the best. Paul.

Hey there

I am so pleased you got the shot to upload in the end. As I mentioned in the email there are a couple of things that could be improved here and Peejay has also explained them well.. however taking into account your camera and ability I think you did jolly well here and I do love the composition. I dont really think it matters so much that the young girl is soft on focus the important factir here is really the baby bird and your detail in the feathers is very good. To me this is a very nice uplifting shot that reminds me of childhood innocence.

Thanks for persevering to get the image uploaded.
kind regards Helen
