The South Esk River a couple of days after a minor flood in the winter of 2007 and a heavier than normal morning fog which cleared at about midday.

The earliest recorded visit to this area was made by settler William Collins in 1804 when exploring the Port in the ship "Lady Nelson". He was particularly impressed by the South Esk and its cataract and wrote, "Upon approaching the entrance I observed a large fall of water over rocks, nearly a quarter of a mile up a straight gully between perpendicular rocks about 150 ft high.

The beauty of the scene is probably not surpassed in the world".

My best wishes to everyone for Christmas, may it be a safe and happy one where ever you may be.

No need for that fog to clear, the atmosphere this creates is wonderful.
I enlarged the picture and could then fully appreciate the impact this place makes.
Have a wonderful Christmas time and a good 2009,

Absolutely splendid! I love the contrasts on this the details and colours on the left floating into the softness on the right and then the river leading the eye through the shot. Wonderful work here David.

I hope you have a warm and wonderful Christmas and that the New Year brings everything you hope for my friend.

kind regards Helen

My dear friend of many faces, this is a wonderful version of your signature foggy shots. I love the way it winds across the image. I can feel the atmosphere all the way from here. It is a very unusual Christmas scene for me to see, indeed. The movement in the water is really eye catching, as well as the reflections. Really good work my dear.

The fog does add great atmosphere, the meerschaum on the water twirling away, and the rocks are openers to the far away falls. Fantastic shot.
Wishing you Happy Holidays.

Nice mistyness andit looks like a beautiful place to take a camera. From a personal point of view I think I would have bumped the saturation up a little, and maybe toned down the brightest areas to bring out more detail.
