I spent some time in the theatre of a small hospital in Kampala, I was fortunate to be able to watch a number of operations to repair cleft lips and palates, these were paid for by a charity called Smile train. At one time cleft lip operations left an obvious scar, these days the technique is so good that it is almost impossible to see there was ever a problem
In around an hour and a half it makes a life changing difference to both adults and children who otherwise would be outcasts from their society.
