Harsh mid-day light and high range of light makes this extremely difficult. You've handled this about as well as it can be, but go back under better light.

I was there in 1984 and have never forgotten the beauty and majesty of the mountains. Thanks for posting this beautiful reminder.

Beautiful scenery, but as PhotoSteve said, the lighting is pretty harsh. A ND Grad filter running along the top of the tree line might have helped keep the foreground shadow detail in a little by cutting down on the light from the sky and mountains. Definitely worth a return trip!

Grand scenery with beautifully shaped mountain peaks. You could download the free trial version of Capture NX and use a gradient filter to balance this or even do similar in CS3 with a gradient layer.

Hi Lynne.
The comments about the light are valid.
However I could put the opposite point of view and say that the light emphasizes the rugged landscape. A nice landscape photo and well composed.
All the best for 2010, Bob

Hi Lynne, another breathtaking view.
Perfect conditions would have meant I had a tripod, an ND filter, lowered the ISO to 100, and possibly narrowed the aperture from from f/9 to f/14 and extended that shutter speed so as to increase the reflections smoothness of the mountain.
I can almost breath better seeing this ;-)
