Winter is coming. Time to eat all oranges you can. Miam ! Wink

Working all day long and the night fall too soon. So I need to improvise new subjects. Here is a very simple but accessible one... An orange decorated by HDR created after calibrating three braketed captures.

Note : The EXIF information is about the last of those three pictures but the current image is the fusion of three other toned mapped image from the HDR processing.

I admit I'm a little perplexed as to why you would use HDR techniques on this subject other than for practice. It is so easy to use a reflector (newspaper will do), and ambient or daylight or flash to light this. However, the result is okay if tending towards an orange tint seen on the pith but your title does say, more orange than real.

Hi Vic, I am not sure if it is the best place to answer but here it is (I still don't know all the habits and conventions here). The first and very good reason (IMHO) for using HDR is ... for fun, of course ! Wink As I explain within my profile, I like to experiment and I didn't try it on this kind of subject yet. Second I didn't want to use the flash in order to keep some shadows (currently not in this version of the picture). The idea of using a reflector is a good one but I must say that I don't have any and I don't read newspaper. Wink No kidding, I admit that I need some practice with the use of a flash because I am not very experienced with it. Winter is coming and it is probably the best time to practice. I hope to be able to show you the results of my new experimentations soon.

Thank you very much for your comment.

Hello Pascal

Oo thats a very juicy looking shot and i am very pleased that you are happy to experiment and share the results with us.. along with the reasons why you tried this. Both your notes and the comments of those who have viewed your image are a great learning too for others to see the different styles and ways to shoot objects.

I love the detail you have shown here and the colour saturation is superb.

Thank you for posting
kind regards Helen

I like the composition and over the top orange. Beats grey skies. Nicely done.

Hello there metamorphose! Smile

As i have never experimented with HDR, i wouldn't really know what to make of this. However i do have one little nit-pick for you. The back left orange, on the right hand side of it, seems to be out of focus. It might be an effect that you were going for?

Hi Pascal-Eric,

I hope my english is sufiicient to make a comment here.

Orange being my favourite colour and oranges very tasty, I love this shot. I was also looking at the focus.
I would keep the ISO 100 here but why not aim the focus in such a way that everything in the picture is sharp. Your focal point here probably is a bit low. You used A priority, so why not try (also for fun) a very high A number - more then 20 and aim a bit higher with your focal point - using a tripod this will probably result in a picture in which every detail is sharp.
Keep in mind that I also am an amateur and this is just thinking about what possiblities for a little play there are here. Using a flash would be a last resort for me as well - I like ambient light much better. As for a reflector: what I sometimes use is aluminium foil using a book or whatever is at hand.

Hope you have as much fun with photography as I do - thanks for this yummy treat!

Hi, this is a response for Koryo & Els all together. Wink
Well the out of focus background orange parts is what I expected in order to allow all the "focus" to stay on the foreground part of the orange. It is not the result of the HDR processing. Of course, I could have choosen otherwise but not this time... I promess to post new tests asap. ;-)

Finally, yes, I have very much fun with photography and I wish to play with it as long as possible !

Kind regards
Pascal-Eric

Hello Pascal-Eric.
Notting wrong with the 'outfocus' of the other parts.
Maybe the forground part can have more sharpness, but it is ok for me.
The little glittering of the flash, makes it even more alife.
Wonder how long it took you after, to consume it, hahaha
