Sometimes nature photography is about being lucky, and being in the right place at the right time.

Walking my dogs today, with the aim of getting some pictures of them in the afternoon sunshine, I happened to look up and see three crows diving in and out of an oak tree - not normal behaviour. So, a little jog and I got there just in time to see the object of their attention, a young kestrel (the older kestrels on this meadow know how to avoid the crows).

Not technically the best picture (shooting into the light was the only way to get the angle to see the birds) but one I like

Wow! I love how the kestril is apprehensively looking up at the dark hovering crow. That's a great action shot Mark! The only thing I would have done to this pic is used a small desat sponge tool and lessoned the fringe coloring on some of the limbs, etc. Still awesome!

Hi Mark,
Must have stopped raining in Norfolk then Smile Excellent wildlife shot and well done for spotting the action from a distance Wink Knowledge of animal behaviour is the key for getting shots like this, so very well done for the shot and for your observational skills!!

Vic.

Yes, I agree with all, very well done. It's nice to have some luck but that does not mean much if the talent isn't there in the first place.

There is an old maxim for photographers - f8 and be there. Well I don't know the aperture but the important thing was you saw something odd, checked it out and were there to make this picture. Nice work.

The crows here do much the same Mark. Under the circumstances a wonderful image. The kestrel looks very anxious sitting there,
Dave
