The painting is interesting. It seems to clash with the decor of the table and its setting, which adds some interest for me. Her (former?) boyfriend is portrayed is quite a hunk, with a very strong neck and set of shoulders-- the proverbial strong and silent type I suppose. The work is not what I would expect most people to hang in their dining rooms, but family is family.
Oh yes. Good photo of the scene.

Perfectly executed still life. Especially like the exposure with crisp lines and dtails. The lighting casts a warm and inviting atmosphere throughout.

The picture on the wall is striking and an interesting piece of art, and I like the way you've included it as the backdrop to your shot - the details and colours of the items on the table contrast well with the picture. The only negative for me is the amount of noise in the shot - I'd be tempted to run this through Neat Image to remove some of it.
Cheers.....Mark
