I like the contrast between the sharper form of the large tree in the foreground and more muted nature of the background trees... the contrast helps to make the foreground really visually "pop" for me in the image. I find myself wanting to clone out the little twigs along the lower edge of the image to lessen their slightly distractive nature in that area of the image.

Trees in winter are a favourite of mine too. I love fine lace-like tracery of their branches but I admit I usually take the easier option of silhouettes. This picture of a frost/snow clad tree is a more difficult subject but when it's done well as it is here, the impact of the resulting pictures is deservedly greater. The trees disappearing in order into the background give a sense of endless depth. I agree with JanB (janper) about the intrusion of the twigs in the lower part of the frame but they are easy to clone out.

Good tonal range in your almost b&w winter scene. Very nice atmospheric effect with the fading of the trees in the b/g. Wondering if I would want more 'space' on the left instead of the square format. But, admittedly, this does give you a good composition.

Hi Mark,
Nice image of a "lone tree" and definately a well used opportunity! Great exposure and the composition with the tree's bowl being on the thirds works well. Nice image and well done for sticking at it when the snow started falling!
Regards
Vic.

Hi Mark...
I agree with the others that this image is well exposed, composed, and has great tonal range and detail. I also agree that the foreground twigs are distracting and detract from the larger content of the image. What I am wondering is whether you may have shot the image a bit too tight, or cropped it tight to achieve the square format. The tree is magnificent, but I think a bit more foreground space would give it room to 'spread out' more in the frame. Just a suggestion:) All of that being said, I really like the photo and would have no hesitation in saying that it should have a good gallery mount and a place on your wall. Cheers, Peter

Beautiful capture Mark. maybe it dose need a bit more room in the frame, but that said the tree stands out.
Thanks

Looks very cold. I love photos of lone trees, and I really like the shape of this one. I also like the muted colors, almost looks like a black and white photo.
