This is our wonderful and much loved 12 year old dog Ellie who was diagnosed with liver cancer back in February 09 and was given 2 months to live. She proved the vets wrong!
Tonight though, we had to say our tearful farewells to her as she went to sleep for the last time.
It's always so incredibly difficult to make the decision and it never gets any easier, but to see her suffer would be far far worse and would only be putting off the inevitable.
This is her 3 years ago and this is how i will always remember her, bright, alert, intelligent, playful and utterly faithful. A truely wonderful companion who will be very very sorely missed.

I lost my last pet to cancer a number of years ago... she could have lived longer but the vet said that the suffering increase and there really was nothing they could do since the cancer had spread through many of her organs. I also have pictures of Joey in her better days and that is the way I will remember her. Sorry for your lose... it can be hard to take but life will go on.

hello Vic, I am so sorry to hear about Ellie. It is so hard as they are members of one's family and it all cuts too deep. I lost a beloved greyhound and my cat, The Toots in the past 2 years. I keenly feel for your loss. A wonderful tribute to your beloved friend. I send you a hug, Joni

So sad to hear that your beloved companion has passed away. She definitely made a place in your heart that will live forever with wonderful memories. It indeed is so very hard to make the decision to let them leave this world but you definitely did the right thing to let her slip into a place where she is free if pain. A wonderful capture to pay tribute to this very special friend.

I know the feeling Vic ... I went through the same experience last year, our dog was 17years old and in a very sorry state, his quality of life was about zero. I had to make the decision to take him to be put down and hated it playing God but he looked at me at the Vets as much as to say "Thank you"Great tribute to Ellie, frame it. I don't think I will have another dog as he/she might outlive me .

I feel your loss Vic. It is so hard to lose a pet particularly a dog which holds a special place in our heart. Ellie looked a beautiful dog and she lived a good life with a loving family. When you let her go you did a hard thing for you but the right thing for her.
Vic.

A very big thankyou to all of you who have left messages, your kind words and thoughts are very much appreciated and are a great comfort.
Although Ellie has been gone for three days now, her paw prints are still there in the garden, frozen into the snow but fading slowly as more snow arrives.... kind of symbolic of the great cycle of life.
Thankyou all once again!!
Kind regards
Vic.

Commiserations on your loss - I know from bitter experience that losing a long time family friend is a heart wrenching thing. Still, we have them so we can live the good times with them and then remember those good times.
Its a nice portrait and shows a lot of character, with a very inquisitive look on her face - a nice way to remember her.
All the best
Mark
