The Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) is the smallest of the remaining five tiger subspecies. It has lived exclusively, for over a million years, in the once extensive moist tropical jungles of the island of Sumatra, Indonesia.
I shot this in 2005 with a Canon 20D/100-400mm lens combo, through a fine mesh enclosure.

With the fine screening eliminated one has the feel of the tiger sitting right in one's lap with nothing between the viewer and the tiger. The colors, the patterning, and those whiskers really serve to bring the tiger to life for me.

Well Howard he didn't mind being shot did he. What a superb image this is such excellent eye contact here. I love his pose and your lighting and colour saturation here is spot on. Very nicely positioned within the frame and the textural detail excellent. Interesting notes here too.

Thank you for posting
kind regards Helen

He doesn't appear to be in a very good mood...as in 'I'd EAT you, you __ photographer, if I could! Great portrait shot with excellent exposure in the shadowed areas, along with spectacular details and colors. Interesting notes too. Well done!

You managed to capture such a woeful look on his face - as though he was tired of being photographed and blinded by the flash. Love the crisp colors and details. Beautifully captured.

No Flash here Nancy, it was shot through a photographer friendly mesh..
Mid-day light. The woeful look is because this guy knows I'm not on the menu Wink

Doesn't look small at all to me...but then, a tiger is just that... A TIGER. I love the perspective - looking deep into his eyes. I'll bet he was licking his chops trying to get you under his spell - you probably appeared like a tasty tidbit to him. Especially like the long hairs on the side of his face. You really got so wonderfully up close and personal!!!

Good diffusion of the wire mesh to provide a very sharp image of this magnificent creature.

It's wonderful that you were able to capture an image of this beautiful animal but it's sad that we have them in captivity.

Thanks for looking at my flower Howard. It is a Lily. I`ve seen and appreciated all your pics. Howard. I`ve picked this one as it just captures the imagination as do all the big cats. Just come home from Swaziland, visited Kruger Park S. Africa and saw and photographed many Lions which I`ll put up on the site in due course. Thanks again take care....Charlie
