I like the manner in which you caught the gulls swarming around the fishing boat... set against the lightness of the sky the individual birds stand out quite well in the image. I might have gone with a lightening of the boat's hull towards the lower right hand corner of the picture (or this part of the wharf?).

I took your suggestions and tried to make the dark area slightly lighter- Id already realised it lacked enough detail but found myself battling with an over lightened sky.
Any suggestions?
Ive just begun using Lightroom and am still finding my way round its complexities.
I had a go at dodging the dark area in using Elements but it looked horrible. Im sure I saw a dodging element in Lightroom but cant find it again!! Its hiding from me.

I really like the light in this shot - I think I would have liked to have the rest of the mast in the shot and maybe a little more of the LHS but still a super shot, wonderfully lit.
Thanks

I like it the way it is - puts me there live and I can just about hear the flapping of their wings as they commence a feeding frendzie on the leftovers as the fisherman cleans his catch. But the detail on this capture that makes it so unique is the back lighting on the wings of the birds against the dark hull of the boat. Most unique - this one's a keeper!!!

I did try the cropping suggested unfortunately the gulls are not sharp enough even with manipulation and for that sort of shot they have to be pin sharp. This is one of my biggest failings! Or rather its comes from my reliance on auto focus because I dont trust my eyes and the camera doesnt have a split screen on it.!!
Thanks for the comments.

I like this image--the light has caught the birds beautifully and taken it from a record shot to an interesting image----great colours, nice sky---- perhaps my only suggestion would be to lighten the ships hull? and dock just a little-------well done---Lynne

I went back a couple of days later to try and get some sharp images of the birds with the light on them but couldn't get anything. I will have to resurrect my old photographic habits of choosing the shutter speed and exposure etc rather than depending, as I tend to, on autofocus. It couldnt keep up with the speed of the swooping gulls!
I did have a go at dodging the dark area but it put the whole thing out somehow.
