The males make such a distinctive sound. I wouldn't know how to describe it, other than very coarse sounding. And it's just what tipped me off yesterday morning that one was nearby. This was taken through my diningroom window at about 30' distance. While that circumstance wasn't ideal, at least the sun showed off some of the male's colorful plummage. Cropped down to approx. 60% of the original. (The b/g is actually a field of snow, but I left the blue tint.)

The most stupidest bird ever, no wonder they are bred for shooting.Nice capture Pat, great detail as you say with the sun shining onto it, because of the severe crop it is a little soft IMOP .. a little High Pass filter would correct this though.

Pat, Hi:

They are a beautful bird and you have composed marvelous colors and details of the feathers. This guy really wintered very well and is in great condition. They are making a come back in our part of the world after being over hunted for many years.

Very Nice Work, Pat.

Wouldn't find that outside our dining room window in these parts. Great job on those colors which are really amazing. You definitely seem to be enjoying life out there.

Just a note. I only cropped away 40%. (Not bad for me.) And I did use high pass filter. Probably the extra 'glass' didn't help matters. Pat

Are you sure you didn't train this bird to pose for you with its tail at a perfect 45° angle?
Super colours against what is a perfect backdrop IMO. I guess these have to be considered "fair game" for the guns since they are native to neither your country nor mine and were originally imported for shooting purposes.

Hello pat.
Good 'shot' on the beautiful bird
Here they are so hard to picture, soon you look at them, they gone.
Thanks, Jan

Well spotted and quick reactions to get this great shot, very sharp, nicely framed in the sot. Just struck me you must have been almost level with the bird to get that angle. Brilliant
Best wishes

This is a great photograph of the male pheasant when one considers that it is taken through a glass window from a long distance... one's sense is that either you were in a blind or just fortunate enough to be outside when the pheasant made its appearance. The contrast between the colors of the pheasant's plumage and the background snow really serves to make the bird visually stand out in the image.

A ringneck showed up in the yard just last week. First time in 30 years! Got a couple of quick pics but nothing as good as this clear side view.
Nice work. Pays to be ready.

Superb Pat, colours well captured and the background perfect. Interesting comments from Vic too, I have seen many pheasant here on road verges that are obviously bred from escaping birds back in the times of the first settlers,

You are so amazing!!! I love how you managed to grab such a low perspective of this guy and glad you left the blue tint behind him...helps him pop. Sure looks like he's well fed with that big round belly. I'll bet he knew where you lived and wanted to be a front page story so he just strutted by when he saw you inside.

Hi Pat,
Lovely colours, nice perspective and pose, good focus, shooting through the window dosen't seem to have done much harm to the resulting image!! Nice work Pat!!
Regards
Vic.
