This photo and others taken on the 25th February this year whilst the animal was feeding along the muddy bottom of the river, each time I try and photograph one I get better but I still have a long way to go. The platypus is widespread in eastern Australia, ranging from tropical lowlands to sub-alpine areas. In Tasmania, the platypus is common in the lakes of the Central Highlands (even in lakes over 914 metres / 2998 feet above sea level), and in rivers and streams of the south, south-west and north-west coasts. Platypuses live in burrows that they dig in the banks of fresh-water rivers, lakes or streams. I hear this morning that kangaroos in the wild have been seen in Japan... what one has to do with the other I don't know... it's too early and a platypus is such a strange looking creature that the story of the kangaroo came to mind.
