This is the cell block at Yuma Territorial Prison in Yuma, Arizona. There were two sets of flat iron lattice work doors to each cell with back to back cells facing each other inside. Though long since closed as an incarceration facility, at one time the cells were used as classrooms for a local high school. Back in the days when prisoners were kept here, the cells were the only escape from the intense summertime temperatures which reach upwards from 110 in the shade. It is now open as a National Monument.

A really good feeling of depth in this image----good leading lines follow the pathway-----good exposure, you have lots of detail even in the shadows-----lynne

I love the light on this and the great color and detail, it draws me right down the path.

I like the sense of flow that works to lead the eyes of the viewer along the walkway between the facing cells, the clarity of detailing and the sense of texturing. One cannot even imagine what it must have been like to have been in one of these cells with a temperature of 110F in the shade.

Hi Diane,
I think i remember an earlier posting of the gate at the far end, with birds on it? Sure looks like a harsh place to do time especialy with those high temperatures. You've managed the exposure very well here with good details in the shaddow areas and no burnt out highlights which must have been difficult in the contrasty lighting conditions. Nicely done!!
