I was photographing some carousel figures yesterday in a small fair locally and I can see immediately that the background makes all the difference to the presence of the carousel figure. The contrast between the horse and the black background really serves to make the horse stand out strongly in the image.
The catchlight in the eye, the sense of texturing that comes through from the horse, and the coloring of the creature all work hand in hand to create a strong composition of the carousel figure.

The details stand out so nicely due to the fabulous lighting in this image. Nice work Patricia.

Hello Patricia.
Nice and sharp picture of this horse head on the carousel.
When I shaw this picture, I immidiately was thinking of the belt buckle, which was hand made by one of my Philipinian workers in the Middle East. (25 years ago)
My son in Sicily is wearing it daily, it is made from Stainless steel and still a beauty and very rare.
Having pictures of it (on my other PC) will upload one later.
Cheers from Jan
