Hello PC friends, well most of you know I don't do people shots. My friend asked me to take some family photos whilst they were all dressed up for a wedding. I really didn't want to to be honest but I thought I could learn a lot. I set up a white shower curtain in the garden for a back drop and used a small reflector that I got free with a magazine and tried for some high key shots as I really like the style.
I actually really enjoyed the experience, making the girls laugh and love some of the shots I got - the beautiful subjects helped!!!
This is Emily whos eleven and Lauren whos fifteen my friends young step daughters.
Any feedback is always greatfully recieved.
Thanks
Paula

I quite like this high key portraiture of the two young women. The perspective (shooting eye level with the two young women), the catchlights in their eyes (which serve to bring them to life before my eyes), and the detailing to be found in their features.

I find myself wondering if the edges of the womens' dresses were apparent in the image if the contrast between the women and the white curtain would be heightened and create more of a 3D feel in the image?

I love what you've done here - the high key with the gentle fading to white to the edges was executed with a high level of artistic creativity. I especially love the details and colors of their eyes - as they are the focus of attention on this magical capture. WELL DONE!! You should do more portraits - you have a natural talent for them.

I like Hi-Key too and it works great here.
The picture also works if red and yellow satu are increased to give extra colour to the hair but the amount of this kind of work is definitely down to the photographer's/sitter's taste.
I think Jan (lovely guy that he is) has missed part of the the point of High Key which is to wear colours that blend with the background and so disappear with HI Key exposure.
I don't know if you tried it but a square crop looks great too.

hello Paula, I was wondering what hi key was until Vic provided such a good explanation here. Looking at the image( and knowing nothing about hi key so I can't comment on that)----- I think you have done a great job of this portrait.Joni
