Another shot with tighter crop revealing the colour detail and distribution on the tail and wings. Note how the colour of the throat of the flower shows through the 'hairs' along the edge of the slightly raised right wing.


This is the Canadian Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio canadensis). There are five species of swallowtails in Alberta and this one can be distinguished by the narrow banding pattern and the orange eyespots on the hind wings

This is the best of your trio of photographs of the Swallowtail butterfly... the butterfly has a very strong presence in the picture.


Very sharp, clear and detailed for a hand held picture... you have a steady hand.
