Usually the photographs one sees of the dragonfly are relatively static with the dragonfly having landed on some object allowing the photographer to get a closeup shot of the creature but here we have the dragonfly in flight which works to create the sense of a stylized "living" helicopter.
The contrast between the relatively darkened form of the dragonfly and the lightness of the background helps to make the dragonfly stand out strongly in the image.

Superbly captured shot, Howard.
Never seen a picture of a dragonfly in flyght.
Big Bravo.

The softness of the near fore wing is slightly annoying but it does illustrate how the pairs of wings of a dragonfly move independently.

Very nice shot Howard! Allways a tricky subject to get so finding a regular perch certainly helps (Looks like he's about to land on the reed). Congrats on this one!!

Vic.

I cannot even get a half decent shot of them sitting still Howard so I am very jealous of this one. The slight blur Vic mentions is a bit off putting but detracts in no way from the quality of the image.
