Back in Norfolk I tried for 2 years to get a decent shot of one of a pair of Green Woodpeckers who lived in some woods opposite my house - 2 years of blurred images and hearing them laugh at me (and yes, they do laugh!!)
So imagine my joy at seeing a pair as I walked around Valentines Park, both more intent on eating bugs off the ground than on the photographer creeping up on them.

They were still wild birds though, and did soon take to the wing, but not before I'd got this image and another couple I like :-)

Cropped from a larger picture and adjusted in Photoshop (increased saturation to compensate for a dull day, and sharpened)

The work we photographers have to do to capture that picture we want and then by sheer accident we have that picture presented to us. That bug in front of the woodpecker really has focused its attention away from yourself... hunger overcomes fear.

You did well to get close to capture one of these. Like yourself I've seen them often from a distance but they rarely allow any approach near enough to photograph so I've yet to capture one.

Hi Mark,
You did well to sneak up close enough to get so much detail!! and no (very loud) laughter this time Smile Congratulations on a well earned and fine image!!

Vic.

Really strange, 5 minuits ago we were just watching one on the school field looking for bugs, alas no camera, then I opened this. Co incidences...great shot, looks very sharp, well captured. You can cross it off your list now. Best wishes
Rob
