From the water lily house at Kew Gardens.

This building is my idea of photography hell - its hot, humid and has loads of tourists milling about inside. Trying to get decent macro work done is impossible - you can't set up a tripod and people keep touching the plants and making things move (I particularly liked the eastern european lady who even managed to put her finger into the flower I was in the process of photographing!!) - rant over....

I find the color of the water lily contrast well with the surrounding greenery and works to create a 3D feel in the picture. I find myself wanting to place the flower and accompanying bud entirely against a green background without the foreground water area but as you say the crush of people would not allow for always clear photographs.

I had the same experience over the past weekend here in Winnipeg trying to photograph the Queen on her visit to our city... you thought you had the perfect view and someone would put an extended arm with a camera right in front of you and you had a great shot of the back of a hairy arm with the Queen's hat on top of the arm.
