I visited the Bodium Castle, Kent, Medieval Fayre the weekend, and despite the rain their was lots of interesting displays and characters. I had a chat to this young lads parents and they gave the ok for me to take the shot, it occured to me with the colours to be something like a dutch master in ambience, all apart from the sneaky contemporary thumbs up ;-)

Hi Ninck.
I like the classical style you've used for this although the I'd prefer it without his thumbs up - kids huh! If you can lighten under the hat, then even better and a crop to the heel of his boot to avoid empty space and direct attention to the subject that would be good too.
I'm hoping to get to the Kent showground for the military odyssey on Saturday of the bank holiday W/E. It looks good and a friend who goes for the 3 days (camping) recommends it. [ link ]

Nice work bisc!!
Shame about the thumbs up but i guess it's a step up from the more current gestures usualy accompanied by.... "word" Smile
The components of the image are good but i think in this case you should have opted for a portrait shot to include his left leg and more of the wicker basket and also zoom out a bit to get more of the contents on the box. Without the thumbs up it would also have been a good candidate for conversion to B&W.
Regards
Vic.

I agree with all of th above---it is indeed a classic portrait without that thumb!!! it brings it in to the modern world---but maybe we should just accept that this is 2010 and move on----a good pose otherwise and great clarity and a softness around the face which I like (did you use a little blur there)---Lynne

Soundfs like you guys over across the pond have all kinds of cool events going on to get fun images! Love this shot, he is a good looking boy and his costume is very effective. He looks like he could have lived way back when :-)
