Even when the leaves have dropped The English Lake district displays beautiful but subtle colours of heather, dead bracken, late grass and fallen leaves.
I've a feeling that this may be a "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" picture. It is a scene I know well taken from below King's How on the track over the Watendlath pass from Rosthwaite. This is the "Borrowdale Beeches" which here still retain their copper red leaves amongst the evergreen conifers, bare-branched silver birches (aspen), and other deciduous trees. I tried to line up the bottom below the base of the trees but of course, there were always more trees creeping in.
This was taken with my D200 probably the best Nikon for natural colour. I was sad to let it go when I got the D700 and kept the D300 but a guy can only use so many cameras - so the wife tells me.

I especially like the foreground triangle of autumn growth... there is just enough contrast between the foreground and the background to bring a sense of depth to the picture.

I've lived for so many years in the flatness of the Canadian Prairies (nearly 40 years) that rugged landscapes like this have become quite dear to me capturing the sense of the long ago years when I lived on the coast of British Columbia where everything seems to either hilly or mountainous.

I like the muted nature of the colors (which made me think of Autumn before I read your comments) and the feel of the setting which draws my eyes to follow the slopes through the image. Not so long until we get into another Fall season with the last vivid colors of the year.

PS-----re Froggy---my mistake -, the lens was my Sigma 300---but zoom not prime----and oh gosh--the weather turned on us last night and I am now golfing on a cold, grey threatening morning----Lynne

Nice one .. as you say the D200 gives better colour rendition, good compo with interesting F/ground and sharp and detailed backdrop ..

The scraped clean mountain sides are so very different from our east coast mountains, and I love them for that. The colors are subtle but very very alluring.

I am going to pass comment without seeing the whole image big or small for some reason it wont load. Good colours Vic in a well composed photo. I think I can just about pick the D200 photos from your files now,
Dave
