I've done the same thing... a view towards the ocean and whatever you might be doing becomes secondary to the view over the sea so if I wanted to read the newspaper I would turn away from the ocean view to allow me to read the paper without the distraction of the view... but that's just me.
Love the varied colors of the beach huts and the diagonal placement of the beach huts serving to draw the eyes of the viewer from the left to the right in the picture.

It could wind or sun direction - or maybe they don't want to watch the hoi-poloi go past!

I agree with Vic .. their seating positions could be due to the prevailing wind or sun .. nice candid

Nice street shot here, I'd have tried a more side on angle perhaps as well if there was further interest on the right side . The colours of the huts really are cool
