One of the varieties of Hebe growing in our garden, I do not go out of the way to follow this so called rule but the results I get usually stick to it.

A normative rule that an image should be mentally or representationally divided in three horizontally and diagonally and that the focus of the image should not be in the centre of the resulting shape.

I find the contrast between the blossom and the surrounding greenery serves to bring a sense of depth to the image... in other words the flower "pops" for me. Being slightly off centre makes the resulting image visually appealing.

Rule of thirds is probably something I should spent more time using but for every step forward to use it I fall back a couple forgetting to make use of the concept.

Like the shape of the flower and the small bud in the middle and it stands out from the green of the leaves
